The daytime temps are still a bit warm so training starts early in the morning. Pulling the 4-wheeler around is exciting for the dogs. Kennel chores include preparing all the outdoor areas for winter and pre-powdering dog booties and vaccuum packing them. Rohn built a sled and Martin already made the sled bag for it. Now is the time to get ahead of the game. (photo by Allie Renkert)
Thanks so much to our summer visitors for making our tour season a success. We are especially excited to hear so many people comment on the tour being the highlight of their trip. That's an honor considering the 5-star scenery in Alaska.
Our Summer Guides have a combined 67 years of Iditarods!!! All of our tours are guided by Iditarod veterans. Martin and Rohn Buser are on site almost every day of the summer. When we have larger groups, we are excited to have DeeDee Jonrowe and Shawn Sidlinger come to share with our visitors. Shawn Sidelinger ran three of his four Iditarods with pure bred Siberian Huskies and started at the Norris kennel, the same place Martin began mushing in Alaska. Shawn has the unique claim to have lived in a remote area along the Iditarod trail. DeeDee is a well established and is one of Alaska's favorite mushers. Rohn has finished two Iditarods and his Dad is the old timer with 29 consecutive finishes. We are having lots of fun, especially with our new little puppies!
Check out our reservations system and reserve your time to visit.
Note to Alaskans: Pay only once per season. That way you can bring as many groups of family and friends out when they come to see you!
It's TOUR TIME again. We had our first Premier Alaska MotorCoach of the season visit last Saturday. The kennel looks better than ever and our new visitor center is working as planned. Beginning on Memorial Day, we are open for public tours at 2:00 pm everyday. We request that guests make reservations to help us plan. Payment is made at the time of the tour, not through our reservation system. We are looking forward to a very busy summer with Rohn and/or Martin here everyday and Deedee Jonrowe scheduled for particularly busy days. Alaska Residents pay once for the entire season so we hope you'll bring guests as they visit.
